ABOUT
Dr Emma ÄŒernis
BAÂ MSc DClinPsych DPhil
Emma completed her clinical psychology training (DClinPsych) and a PhD (DPhil) at the University of Oxford before taking up the post of Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Birmingham in 2022.

Through her research, Emma aims to improve the understanding and treatment of dissociative difficulties. Clinically, Emma has expertise in working with young adults experiencing dissociative symptoms before or during a first episode of psychosis, and with children, teenagers, and families affected by sexual trauma.
​
Taking an approach heavily informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and related therapy models, Emma's work is underpinned by core values of collaboration, inclusion, and academic rigour.
